main line new years eve

Well, we’re almost there, if you can believe it, folks – we’ve get less than one week left until Christmas! Only five days! As the beloved Grinch would say, “It’s practically here!” I hope you’ve got all you shopping and decorating done or scheduled so that you can just relax and take it a little slow and easy this week. As you may have guessed, there won’t be any new blog post next week, so I wanted to take this week to let you all know about some of the great Main Line New Years Eve parties that are going to be going down on the 31st!

It should come as no surprise that the Main Line and the surrounding area – especially Philly – is FULL of amazing New Years’ Eve events, large and small, so there should be something out there for everyone – whether you want to keep it lowkey at a local bar, or go all out in a great big ballroom in the city.

If you’re not in New Years’ mode yet, don’t worry – this post will still be around when you are. In the meantime, if you still need a tree or you’re behind on your decorating, I’ve got posts to help you out with that here and here. Don’t stress! You’ll get it done!

And if you’re still looking for more Christmas-y activities to do, I’ve got a post about that too. Some of them even extend into January!

However you ring in the New Year (and the new decade! Wow!) this year, I hope you really enjoy it! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, and I’ll see you in 2020! Now, here are some of the coolest Main Line New Years Eve parties you can go to this year!

Noon Year’s Eve at Giggleberry Fair

We’ll start things off with something for the little kids who can’t hang until midnight – A NOON Year’s Eve party at Peddler’s Village’s Giggleberry Fair. Their balloons drop at noon on December 31st, and kids (and grownups!) will get hats, noisemakers, and bubblewrap fireworks.

Before the balloons drop, kids can enjoy a special performance by Lolly and Yoyo, too!

This party is great for parents who have parties they want to go to, but who don’t want their kids to miss out on all the fun, either.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre: Dead Men Don’t Speakeasy

Another Peddler’s Village event, this one decidedly more adult! If you want to ring in the new 20’s by really getting into character (or at least watching others do so,) you should definitely check out this neat, one-night only show at the famous Cock ‘n Bull Tavern. From their website:

Doors Open 7:30 p.m.; Seated 8:00 p.m.; Show begins 8:20 p.m.
$115 per adult (Includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, champagne toast, show, tax, and service charge)

“It’s the roaring twenties, and you have been invited to the hottest spot in town: The Rotten Club! It’s a big night and everyone is up to no good. Early Demise, the club owner, is on edge because Mr. Big is back to check out the joint and make sure Early is making his backer money. Early’s headliner (and sometimes girlfriend, Bette), is scheduled to sing, but Bette is too busy making eyes at the guests to perform. To make matters worse, Early’s wife has decided that tonight is the night to end Early’s “extracurricular activities” with Bette and the bottle. It will take a master detective and help from YOU to solve the mystery!

Enjoy 1-hour butlered hors d’oeuvres (all night cash bar), three course dinner with entrée options & champagne toast. After the show, sidle up to the Hart’s Tavern bar (open until 1:00 a.m.) and watch the ball drop.”

Rivers Casino New Years’ Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront

Want to spend New Years Eve in Philly bundled up outdoors watching the fireworks? Definitely check out Rivers Casino New Years’ Eve Fireworks on the waterfront. From VisitPhilly.com:

“The Rivers Casino New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront event features two major pyrotechnics displays over the Delaware River — one at 6 p.m. and another at midnight. Spectacular views can be enjoyed from numerous spots throughout the city, including the river trail behind Rivers Casino, at Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest (site of indoor and outdoor celebrations) and more.”

Glitter City Gala at the Bellevue Hotel

Looking for a Philly experience a little more fancy (and indoors)? Check out the Glitter City Gala at the Bellevue – talk about posh! Tickets are expensive, going for over $100, but here’s what they get you:

“Get dressed up and head to The Bellevue Hotel for a multi-floor party with dance floors, an open bar, buffet stations and more, plus a Philly twist on the Times Square tradition: the dropping of a Liberty Bell at midnight.”

Marple Sports Arena Countdown to Noon

Another one for the kiddos, though slightly older ones will enjoy this party – Marple Sports arena in Broomall is holding a countdown to Noon party on New Years Eve, where kids can climb Marple Mountain, play in their arcade, enjoy their skating rink, and enjoy face painting and inflatables at a DJ’d dance party while they wait for the big noon balloon drop.

Kids tickets are $12, adults are $1. You can register online here.

New Years Eve Rock n Bowl and Wynnewood Lanes

If you want to do something as a family this New Years Eve but don’t want to be out in the morning, this Main Line New Years Eve party in Ardmore is perfect for you.

New Years Eve Media Celebration

If you’re looking to do something like the New York Times Square Ball drop, but more local and without all the crowds and madness, head over to Media for their Community Celebration and Ball Drop. The celebration will be taking place on State Street, in front of Spasso Italian Grill, and will feature a live performance by Philly Gumbo at 11pm leading up to the ball drop.

New Years Eve at Shere-E-Punjab

The fantastic Indian restaurant Shere-E-Punjab is another great Media location for New Years Eve. Starting at 8pm, they’ll have a live band playing music – Roger Grike and the Wandering Souls – great fun, and great food. So if you love live music, Indian food, and a more laid back atmosphere, this is the party for you.

The Melting Pot in King of Prussia

If you want to Fon-do New Years Eve right, check out the Melting Pot in King of Prussia for their Roaring 20s New Years Eve party! They’ll have a five course, price fixed, 20s themed fondue dinner from 3:30 to 11:30 pm. Stick around and take pictures in the photo booth, and wait to toast with complimentary cocktails to ring in the new decade!
